Code2000 is a work-in-process. It currently (Version 1.10) has over 33000 glyphs.

It is still a bit rough, in spots. I am constantly working to improve it and add more glyphs.

Although it is more-or-less readable at 12 - 18 point, it is much clearer at about 24 point. Some of the dingbats should be at least 36 point. With font- smoothing it looks good at normal sizes.

Windows 98 (and up) has font-smoothing built-in. Microsoft has font-smoothing available for free download for Windows 95. If you're running Windows 95 you should definitely get font smoothing.

To download font smoothing for Windows 95, go to http://www.microsoft.com/typography/grayscal/smoother.htm
Instructions for installing and activating Windows 95 font-smoothing are included in the package.

To enable font smoothing in Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Windows M.E.:
1) Click My Computer
2) Click Control Panel
3) Click Display
4) Click Effects tab
5) Put check in box called "Smooth Edges of Screen Fonts"

All of the glyphs are mine, painstakingly drawn one point at a time. I try to design glyphs which are true to the language they represent based on as many script samples as I can obtain.

Some of the scripts are only partially represented in the font.

KNOWN ERRORS:

HEBREW: Some combinations of Hebrew non-spacing marks will shut down an application on some platforms. This has been observed only where one isolated non-spacing mark follows another isolated non-spacing mark. In other words, these non-spacing marks are not following any letter. This never occurs in Hebrew text, but might occur in a teaching aid or as an illustration. The way to prevent this from happening is to always encode isolated non-spacing marks after the dotted circle glyph, U+25D6 (or, ◌ in HTML). The example that caused a crash on this system is U+0028 U+05B9 U+0020 U+006F U+0072 U+0020 U+05B9 U+0597 U+0029, where parentheses and spaces are also used. (Other similar random combinations did not cause a crash.) Future plans for Code2000 include adding OpenType support for Hebrew. Once this is accomplished, this "bug" should not be a factor.

HEBREW: Adding OpenType tables for Hebrew will also resolve problems with the correct placement of marks. Version 1.07 of the font had some peculiar behavior with regards to mark display on some platforms. Quite a bit of adjusting has been done to the Hebrew marks to make it display reasonably well on the test system here. If version 1.07 already displayed well on your system, it is hoped that these new changes won't solve one problem only to cause another.

Code2000 claims to support the Chinese code-pages, but it doesn't (yet).

OPENTYPE:

Code2000 now has OpenType tables for some scripts. Gurmukhi and Tamil tables are now completed, as far as I can tell. The new addition of Bengali offers my first shot at OpenType tables for Bengali, and any comments or suggestions for improvement in the Bengali coverage are welcome. The Bengali glyphs are not quite finished, and several are a bit rough. Much work remains to be done for Devanagari (but, half-letter forms seem to be working at last!) and other Indic scripts.
